At Triathlon Club, we train and race in swimming, running and cycling. Not all events include all 3 elements but they tend to include at least two out of the three disciplines. Distances tend to be longer than at swim galas and athletics, making the events more endurance based. In addition to club events such as the Halloween Fun Run and the High March Triathlon, not to mention the ‘friendly’ cycle and run event against Davenies, we also take part in some open competitions. Competing at national events is a big step up and we are super proud of our track record. The British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships, a swimming and running event involving a 50m pool swim and an 800m track run, is first in the diary and we have a great track record having won medals at the National Finals in each of the last 3 years. In November 2022, twenty-three High March pupils in Years 4, 5 & 6 took part in a local qualifying event at Bracknell. Swim and run scores are added together and the highest-ranking places are invited to the national finals. On Sunday 12th March, fifteen High March girls raced at the championships, and all gave very impressive performances. In Year 4, Evie S, Iris J and Alice R were placed 2nd in the Team competition and all finished in the Top 10 individually. In addition, Evie S was the 2nd fastest swim of the day in Year 4. Our Year 5 team, namely Elizabeth P, Elisa P and Cara S also won medals, finishing 3rd in the Year 5 team event. On 21st May, we took a team from each of Year 5 and Year 6 to the IAPS National Triathlon, held at Monkton Prep in Bath. Elizabeth P, Elisa P and Annabel S represented High March in Year 5 and all raced admirably, with Annabel finishing in the top 10. Freya H, Jessica M and Alana F represented the school in the Year 6 category and also raced strongly, finishing in the middle of the field. The Jetstream Hatch End Triathlon is a local, but still highly competitive event, which took place on the same day as the IAPS Finals. Ms Norman and Mrs Levison supported another nineteen girls at this event. For many, this was the first time they had raced a triathlon, and, wow, did they do well! Another fabulous year and well done to everyone who took part.
