What an exciting and highly successful year we have had in the swimming department at High March. The year began with a Division 10 gala for Years 4 to 6 and the girls got off to a strong start, producing some impressive results with Years 5 and 6 winning the first place and Year 4 second place. We built on this strong start to secure victory in the Division 10 Finals: Years 4 and Year 6 won the cups for their performance in the finals and our swimmers came home with a total of twenty-nine medals across the relays and individuals. We also saw strong performances from our Year 5 and 6 girls at the IAPS event with several swimmers making into the finals for individuals and relays. Four of our Year 5 girls qualified for the IAPS finals, together with five of our Year 6 girls. Qualifying for the IAPS finals is a huge achievement, as it is a national event with 1,500 qualifiers out of 40,000. All the girls produced exceptional swims with the Year 6 teams finishing 9th in the medley relay and 8th in the freestyle. Our Year 5 team also distinguished itself, coming 6th in the medley relay. The highlight of the IAPS was without doubt one of our Year 5 swimmers reaching the finals and achieving 4th placing nationally.Remarkably, this year several records were broken for High March. Specifically, one of our swimmers in Year 3 now holds third place in Backstroke, two of our Year 6 swimmers hold third place in butterfly and freestyle respectively, a Year 5 swimmer holds first place in butterfly and backstroke, and another Year 5 swimmer is ranked first in Breaststroke and third in freestyle. Our swimmers will undoubtedly go from strength to strength next year and we will have to wait and see if any of these records will be broken! Our final swimming gala was against Davenies during the summer term. As you might expect, the atmosphere was highly charged, the background noise was loud, and the races were very close indeed. A number of girls stood out for their strong performances, but each and every girl contributed to a richly deserved triumph for High March. Go, High March! Our swimming captains have played a crucial role in the Swimming department this year; their leadership and encouragement have been invaluable, inspiring their teammates to strive for excellence in every race. Finally, we say goodbye to our Year 6 swimmers and we wish them much luck as they move on to the next chapter of their lives. This year has truly been one of growth, achievement and joy in the swimming department, and we look forward to building on this success in the years to come.SWIMMING33
