High March has a long tradition of taking part in community events; we actively seek out opportunities for pupils to visit residents in our community and we welcome participation in local events.
In October, Reverend Sharon Roberts was our guest speaker for Harvest Festival. There was a wonderful display of produce, courtesy of staff and parents and these were subsequently donated to the Slough Food Bank and to the Thursday Lunch Club in Beaconsfield.
A few weeks later, we were delighted to join with the local community in a service of remembrance at the Beaconsfield War Memorial in the Old Town. The Mayor of Beaconsfield was present together with pupils from the local schools. The service included readings, poems and prayers and our Head Girls laid a wreath on behalf of High March.
High March has many talented musicians who are delighted to perform to local residents. Events include a number of charity concerts held in St Michaels and All Angels church, along with a lunch time recital at the United Reform Church, not to mention concerts at Sunrise House and at a lunch club at the Curzon centre. Thank you to Mr Hayes, Director of Music, for organising these many and varied events.
The children of High March love animals and so, when we were invited to donate food, toys, blankets and treats to High Wycombe Cats Protection, Stokenchurch Dog Rescue and Tiggywinkles wildlife centre there was an excellent response. Thank you to everyone who gave so generously.
The King’s Coronation celebrations presented a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community. The older girls took part in the ‘Big Help Out’. Each year group was involved with different activities. Year 4 pupils, for example, headed out into the local community on a mission to tidy up Beaconsfield. Using litter grabbers and wearing gloves, the girls worked in pairs to collect any litter they could find on the high street, residential pavements and in local parks. They were astonished at how much litter there was and all the girls agreed that taking your rubbish home or placing it in bins was important to keep our local environment a safe and pleasant place.
Year 5 pupils, on the other hand, created invitations for the Art Exhibition, which were delivered to the local community, as well as to the residents of Bradbury House and The Hollies. On the Sunday of the Art Exhibition weekend, High March staff met the visitors who spent a lovely afternoon admiring the wonderful artwork and enjoying the High March hospitality.
This is just a snapshot of the events in which High March has participated over the course of the year. The generosity of the High March families is greatly appreciated, as well as the time given by staff and pupils.
We look forward to what next year will bring for High March and the community.
Mrs Halford
