As part of NSPCC Number Day on Friday, February 2, everyone came to School dressed in imaginative costumes to support the mathematical theme. At Upper School, there was a very special visitor, Johnny Ball, star of the 1980s mathematics show, %u2018Think of a number%u2019 and an ambassador for the NSPCC. He gave a very special assembly with a strong factual element describing ways in which we can use mathematics to help explore and understand the world. The girls were captivated by his trademark enthusiasm and jokes! The mathematical theme continued throughout the day with a range of number-based games for the girls at breaktime and lunchtime, for example darts, noughts and crosses and guess the totals of items in pictures. Junior House joined in the fun too; they had fun going from classroom to classroom completing various number challenges. All in all, Number Day provided a wonderful opportunity for children to experience Mathematics in the widest sense and to help raise money for a very worthwhile charity close to everyone%u2019s heart. We send a heartfelt thank you to Johnny Ball for such an engaging visit. High March has had a long association with the NSPCC, going back to 1948, and in the last five years alone, we have raised an impressive sum of money - over %u00a39000! Thanks must go most recently to the High March Ball Committee, who very kindly donated a further %u00a31000 following their highly successful Summer Ball, %u2018Le Cirque des R%u00eaves%u2019 in June 2023.Back in October, we welcomed Vi Malcolm from the NSPCC to join us in a special assembly at which our Charity Prefects presented the NSPCC with a large cheque and donation of %u00a310,136.29! Vi expressed the gratitude of the NSPCC in receiving such a substantial donation and spoke about how the money will be used to help children and young people.NSPCC
